The quaint clean coastal town of Vasco da Gama is a popular tourist getaway in Goa. The town has some of the most wonderful churches that you will find in Goa. The place was named after the legendary Portuguese explorer and one of Goa's first viceroy, Dom Vasco da Gama. The city lies on the western tip of the Mormugao peninsula overlooking the mouth of Zuari river. After Portuguese occupation the place became a very busy port.
The city of Vasco da Gama is near the port of Goa and only 3 km away from the Dabolim airport. The city has a number of beaches around it. Some of these are Bogmolo Beach, Velsao Beach and Naval Aviation Museum. Tourists enjoy a nice stroll along the beach during the evening.
