About Goa

Goa borders the western part of India and enjoys the beautiful coastline along the Arabian sea. Once a colony of the Portuguese, Goa became an integral part of India in the winter of 1961 when the Indian Army moved into Goa to free it from foreign occupation. After 26 years of joining the Republic of India as a Union Territory, Goa attained the status of complete statehood in the year 1987.

Panaji is the capital city of Goa and is the seat of administration. The major cities are Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda. Dabolim airport near Vasco is the main national and international airport. English is extensively spoken by the people. But among other languages Konkani, Marathi and Hindi is well understood.

Goan Cuisine is famous across the world for some delectable dishes. The reassuring presence of Western Ghat ensures that Goa has abundant supply of water and extensive greenery. The laidback, peaceful and friendly place is without doubt the best place to go for a holiday tour. Although according to conventional wisdom, winter is the best time to visit Goa, contrary to popular belief it must be noted that during the monsoon, the beauty of Goa is at its best.
